On Monday 12 November the toffs, politicians, bankers and business ‘leaders’ who helped cause the financial crisis and who are now leading the austerity scam will be joining the Lord Mayor of London at his annual banquet. They can expect to come face to face with the plebs and PIIGS of London (Londoners from Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain), as the plebs & PIIGS hold their very own special ‘feast’ outdoors.

A lavish affair, The Lord Mayor’s Banquet, is hosted by the new Lord Mayor of the City of London Corporation, Alderman Roger Gifford, with the ‘great and good’ gathered together, an obscene congregation of wealth and gluttony. This year’s notable guests include the Rt Hon David Cameron MP, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams, Late Lord Mayor Alderman David Wootton and Lord Chancellor Chris Grayling MP.

The plebs and PIIGS say: ‘They don’t represent us’

Expect to see inequality played out as theatre at the Guildhall, an entertaining spectacle underpinned with a serious call to action to halt the scam, to unite against the few in society that are benefiting off the rest of us, and to fight for a more just and equal society.

It’s time that people who are being affected by unnecessary and failing austerity measures across Europe begin to work in solidarity to address economic injustice internationally. We are all Greeks, we are all Irish, we are all Spanish, we are all Italian, we are all Portuguese. We are all the disabled, the jobless, the homeless, the ones unable to afford education, the young without any future. We are of all racial minorities, all elderly and fearful of fuel poverty, all sick but unable to pay for good health care. We are suffering under an unjust, undemocratic, unsustainable economic system, that destroys peoples’ lives – it is time for change and real action, rather than empty words and promises.

Coalition of groups coming together – get involved
The Plebs & PIIGS Banquet is a creative and peaceful action building towards the European general strike on 14 November, which will see people striking and taking action in countries across Europe, including Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Italy, and France, as well as in the UK. In London, the Coalition of Resistance has called a twilight protest at 5 pm outside the European Commission Office (32 Smith Square SW1P 3EU) as well as a rally.

The event is supported by PIIGS United (Londoners from Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain), supporters of Occupy London, Greece Solidarity Campaign, Londres Contra a Troika (Portuguese Resistance), 15M London Assembly (Spanish) and many more who are coming together. Expect news!
