Convergence Centre in France

From French and Italian activists

Thanks to the help and work of Italian groups in Imperia and French ones in Nice, we were able to create a convergence center before the Italian border (South of France between Nice and Vintimiglia). Please pass the word around.

The convergence center will be organized after Nice, just after the last French toll on the highway (A8). It will be in a highway stop called Beausoleil. (Gas station plus a lot of room for buses to stop safely).

It will open on the 18th. On the 18th the Schengen agreement section 2.2 will be applied. The borders will not be closed nevertheless the Italian authorities will most probably take their time to check indentities and so on. The are talks about the existence of a “black list” ie persons that were controlled and arrested in previous demonstrations. Everything will be organized to help everyone to pass the border and to arrive safely and quickly in Genoa.

The convergence center in Beausoleil won’t be a “sleeping place”. We ask buses and cars to stop in order to fully inform persons on the border situation here and elsewhere, to give maps of Genoa, to explain where to go, where are the different places (convergence center, GSF, sleeping places and so on), to organize if necessary people at the border.

The physical situation of the border control is very special. In fact the control will be in the Italian territory, therefore submitted to the Italian legal system. The Italians will provide lawyers help if needed. Coordination between the Italian side and the French convergence center will be of course organized.

Convergence Centre - London

The Convergence Centre will enable people to meet, sort out practical issues and discuss the actions we plan to take in Genoa.

The Centre will be at the University of London Union (ULU) in Malet St (Euston, Euston Square or Goodge St tubes.) It will be open from 4-10.30pm on Wednesday 18 July.

Please arrange your own accommodation in London if you can. If you need accommodation, we will be able to provide you with basic accommodation, staying with a Globalise Resistance member overnight. This may be basic (sleeping on a couch or floor.) You cannot sleep at the Convergence Centre.
