Globalise Resistance Forum Tuesday 5 April 2011
After the big anticuts demo, Globalise Resistance is going to be permanently active once more. The movement in he UK is exciting, diverse and going places and we think GR has something to offer.
There’s been quite a few changes since we last marched with orange flags, but the presence of an anticapitalist organisation with an international outlook has a contribution to make. We think mobilising for international summits has value, can link struggles in different countries and provides a place where we can learn from each other. All the peple involved in getting GR up and running again are politically independent. We don’t think that we are the answer to everything and encourage everyone to participate in the different groups and actions that appeal to them. We offer a mix of domestic and international protest, of traditional and direct actions, of debate and discussion. But really GR is what you make it.
On Tuesday 5 April we are holding the Globalise Resistance Forum. the forum takes shape in two separate parts:
PART ONE: Two speakers, JohnHilary (executive director of War on Want) and Amelie Canonne from the French coordination on the G8 & G20 mobilisations, will address the issue of the G8 and G20 summits and protests happening in France this year, speaking on what we can do and achieve around these events. There will be time for questions, discussion and contributions.
PART TWO: We break into workshops. these can be about what you want them to be. We will be organising a workshop on the G8/G20 mobilisations and another on Campaigning against PFI, but if you wanted a workshop on, say, May Day, Climate Change, Women’s Rights or The Middle East, you can announce one. We break into workshops, people attend the one they most fancy (if no one turns up to any workshop, it simply doesn’t happen).
FINALLY: someone from each workshop does a very short report back, announces any intention to carry forward the process, perhaps an action, another meeting (“working group”). Globalise Resistance will try to facilitate the plans you come up with.
Its better if you see it in action, come along:
