 Rally: No Platform for the Nazis |
|
||
The Nazis in Britain have received unprecedented media coverage in the last few months. The fascist BNP and NF have been interviewed by heavyweights like Jeremy Paxman and John Humphries as if they were respectable politicians. Whenever the Nazis get on TV or in the press it gives them credibility, and gives confidence to racists. Racist attacks soared by 300% after a BNP councillor was elected in the Isle of Dogs, London, in 1993. Racist violence has spread through Oldham and Burnley since the General Election. The BNP and NF lie to the media. They do not reveal their true aims or beliefs. When does Nick Griffin ever talk about the BNP's most famous member, the nailbomber David Copeland? Hitler played the same game as the BNP. He contested elections as a "respectable" candidate while organising street violence and planning the Holocaust. The Nazis exploit democracy in order to crush it. We appeal to the press to give no platform to the Nazis. John Forster General Secretary, National Union of Journalists Nick Cohen journalist Jamil Dehlavi film director Michael Rosen writer and broadcaster Julie Waterson national organiser Anti Nazi League speaker from Searchlight anti-fascist magazine 7.30pm, Tuesday 7
