On Christmas Day some 800 workers of EMCALI, the publicly owned corporation that provides electricity, water, and telecommunications to the city of Cali in Colombia, occupied the central administration tower block following the rushed replacement of the corporation's General Manager. SINTRAEMCALI works with the community and has massive support for:

No to the privatisation of EMCALI!
No to price increases for water, electricity and telephones!
Defend the occupation! No to the criminalisation of social protest!

More than 160 Colombian trade unionists, and thousands of activists from the social movements, were assassinated last year. The defeat of SINTRAEMCALI, one of Colombia's strongest unions, would open the floodgates to further savage attacks, which makes this occupation a cornerstone in the mass struggle and its outcome of crucial importance for the people of Colombia and Latin America.
