EU Summit Protests, Seville

GR logo

EU ministers are set to announce new attacks on immigrants and asylum seekers at the summit, as racism and fascism grow in strength across Europe.

The level of opposition is growing as well - Spanish trade union have called a General Strike for Thursday 20 June. Protests are planned for Friday 21 and Sunday 23 June.

What ever you do, bust a gut to get to Seville, it promises to be a pretty special weekend.

Remember the planned General Strike on Thursday 20 June when you make travel plans.

Transport

We recommend you fly to Madrid, and get the GR coach from there to Seville.

Why fly?
Seville is is southern Spain, over 1000 miles from almost all of the UK, so a coach isn't viable. Those nice folk at SNCF - the French rail company who cancelled and then uncancelled our train to Genoa - aren't being helpful. So you need to go by air - sorry for advocating the most environmentally destructive form of transport, but no extra planes will be arranged if you all buy a ticket now.

Booking your flight
Loads of different plane companies fly from the UK to Spain - see our Seville flights page for more info. If you want to travel on the GR coach, you'll need to get to Central Madrid for noon on Wednesday 19 June - the metro from the airport takes about 30 minutes.
The coach
The coach journey is scheduled for Wednesday 19 June, will take six hours and will cost 20 to 30 (about 14 - 20). We hope to travel with activists from around Europe. To join the coach, get to Madrid by midday on Wednesday to be on the safe side.

Alternative Transport Methods

If you can't get to Madrid for Wednesday, the best bet is still to fly to Madrid and get a scheduled coach to Seville.
You can also get a flight to other Spanish airports - see our Seville flights page.
Spanish trains are much faster than coaches, but much more expensive as well - see our Seville trains page.

Meeting Up
We will sort out places to meet for people wanting to join the GR contingent - both in Madrid on Wednesday and in Seville over the weekend. This info will be on the website in the first week of June.

Getting Back
For return flights, Sunday afternoon seems a good bet, but the later the better if you're flying from Madrid. There will also be a similar set up for activists from Barcelona, only the journey will be longer and slightly more expensive.

Accommodation
If you bring a tent, we'll get you a pitch for it in a football stadium. More details in the first week of June.
