 Diary Make the Oil Companies Pay for Their Pollution |
|
||

The world's oil companies are keen to profit from their trade, but work hard to avoid paying for their pollution. Climate change is the most dangerous impact of our dependence on fossil fuels, but the sinking of oil tanker Prestige focuses attention on another aspect of the dirty business of extracting, transporting, and burning fossil fuels. The Prestige disaster will cost many millions in clean-up and compensation, but the true environmental cost of the disaster will be many times higher. The business-friendly low standards in shipping which helped cause this disaster is just one example of how corporations rig the system to evade environmental laws. Call for Corporations
