Ring the Italian Embassy on 020 7312 2200 and demand the release of the prisoners.

More than twenty organisers and activists involved with the European Social Forum have been arrested and are being held in high security jails in Italy. On Friday, a hastily called picket of the Italian Embassy in London saw a determined protest in solidarity with demonstrations breaking across Italy itself.

Some of those being held have worked closely with Globalise Resistance in the past. After the Genoa protests last year Antonino Campenni from COBAScame to London speak at the report back meeting GR organised in Conway Hall. Antonino is currently held in solitary confinement under spurious terrorism charges.

The prisoners' spirits remain high. Francesco Caruso, a leading figure in No Global from the South of Italy, has said that

Handcuffs and prisons won't stop our struggles, our ideas and actions to build the other possible world, one without handcuffs and prison cells.

None of the jailings, however, can take away the victory of Florence. This vital breakthrough for our movement is a sign of our strength and diversity. We want to make sure this is not lost in the concern for our imprisoned comrades.

To discuss the events of the European Scoial Forum, the campaign to defend activists in Italy and the more general future of the anti-capitalist movement, Globalise Resistance invite you to the report back meeting on Saturday 23 November:

After Florence: Which Way Forward for the Anti-Capitalist Movement?
