Blockade of Aldermaston

Stop It at Source

7am, Monday 14 May 2001

Join the protest at the Atomic Weapons Establishment where Trident warheads are built.

Aldermaston Village is due west of Reading off the A4. The AWE is uphill through the village.

The Blockade, organised by CND, TP and Aldermaston Womens Peace Camp, is part of Trident Ploughshares' on going actions against British nuclear weapons. We are particularly concerned about International Law as the International Court of Justice in June 1996 came out against the threat or use of nuclear weapons making them illegal just as chemical and biological weapons are [except in very exceptional circumstances to defend us from an aggressor nation. This of course was the minority view of the Security Council nuclear weapon states]. The British Government is failing to set a time table for the disarmament it has signed up to.

Most of our actions take place at Faslane in Scotland but as the weapons are made at Aldermaston we also hold disarmament camps there too. This blockade has been chosen because of the success of the February one in Scotland. We hope to get out some southern MPs who support us. As you will have read SNP MPs were arrested along with Caroline Lucas our local MEP and 382 others in Scotland.

TP and Aldermaston Women's Peace Campaign camps will be at Aldermaston, 10-15 May. For info, leaflets, transport, non-violent training and more contact London CND on 020 7607 2302, [email protected]. Accommodation is being organised in Reading for the night before.
